Dr Tai-chin Lo, Vice Chairman of W. Haking Enterprises Ltd, is one of the founding faculty members of the University’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (now Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering). She also served as the founding director of the Nanosystem Fabrication Facility, the first nanofabrication laboratory established at a tertiary institution in Hong Kong.
Dr Lo and her husband Dr Tony Tai, Chairman of W. Haking Enterprises Ltd, are firmly committed to advancing education and research as well as nurturing talents. The facility is named after Dr Tai-chin Lo in recognition of the couple’s longstanding support of the University.
Officiating at the ceremony were Dr Tai-chin Lo, Dr Tony Tai and their daughter Ms Karen Tai, Director of W. Haking Enterprises Ltd; together with HKUST President Professor Nancy IP, Vice-President for Research and Development Professor Tim Cheng, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Professor Yang Wang, and Director of Nanosystem Fabrication Facility Professor Kevin Chen.
The ceremony was well attended by over 100 guests, including Professor Hsin-Kang Chang, Founding Dean of HKUST School of Engineering, professors and colleagues of Nanosystem Fabrication Facility, as well as representatives from Liaison Office of the Central People's Government, All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, International Association of Chinese Traders and Yan Oi Tong.
