HKUST has recently received a generous donation from Thetos Foundation to establish the Thetos Distinguished Teaching Award, the very first Award set up at the University to exclusively recognize the contributions of teaching-track faculty on their teaching excellence and to support their teaching advancement projects and personal development.

In recognition of the Foundation’s generosity, an appreciation lunch hosted by Professor Yang Wang, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, was held on 3 June 2024 for Mr Charles To, Chairman of Thetos Foundation and alumnus of Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA program. The lunch was also joined by Ms Cecilica To, sister of Mr To; Professor Jimmy Fung, Associate Provost (Teaching & Learning); Professor Kai Lung Hui, Senior Associate Dean of Business and Management; and Ms Judy Au, Director of Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA Program.

At the lunch, Professor Wang expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Foundation for its generosity and support for the teaching-track faculty. He added that the University aspires to empowering the next generation to address global challenges for a better future, and the support from Thetos Foundation was crucial to achieving this goal by providing the necessary resources to the dedicated educators at the University.

Mr To expressed that as an alumnus of the University, he and the Foundation were delighted to support HKUST. The Foundation looked forward to fostering a culture of teaching excellence that would benefit generations of students to come through the establishment of the Thetos Distinguished Teaching Award.
