The Paul and Eileen Lin Endowment Trust was established by the late Prof Paul Lin and his wife Mrs Eileen Lin. Prof Lin was a prominent scholar, historian, and a remarkable activist who dedicated his life to the rise of China, particularly in fostering the diplomatic relations between China and Canada where Prof. Lin lived and received education.
The Trust hopes more young people can see various perspectives of China and contribute to the well-being of the young generation in China. With the donation, the Trust will set up the “Paul and Eileen Lin Grant” at HKUST. The Grant will support more students to take part in service learning programs in China organized by HKUST Connect of the University.
In addition to the donation to social service learning by the Trust, Mrs. Lin donated all of the rare and invaluable books collected by Professor Lin, as well as Professor Lin's manuscripts, letters, press reports, speeches and pictures to the library of HKUST. The Library is holding an exhibition entitled “A Life between East and West: Paul T.K. Lin” to present the exceptional life of Prof Paul Lin, until 30 October 2015.
Prof. Kar-yan Tam, Dean of Students, students and colleagues from HKUST Connect and the Library gratefully received Prof Douglas Lin, son of Prof Paul Lin, and Mr Howard Chu, Trustee of the Paul and Eileen Lin Trust on 20 April 2015. They expressed great appreciation for the kind gift from the Trust.
