Bright students from Hong Kong Received the High Fashion Charitable Foundation Exchange Scholarships

On 3 January 2018, HKUST Vice President (Institutional Advancement) Dr Sabrina Lin received a HK$ 1 million donation on behalf of the University from Mr Will Lam, Executive Director of High Fashion Group, which is a listed company and a world leading silk manufacturer and distributer. Will wants to establish a scholarship scheme that encourages students to strive for the best and widen their horizon with overseas learning opportunities. The High Fashion Charitable Foundation was set up by his father, Mr Lam Fu-wah and this is their first donation to HKUST.

In attendance on that day were Dr Tony Lam, Associate Dean of Students of HKUST, Mr Roman Lo, Chief Information Officer of High Fashion as well as two scholarship recipients, Mr CHENG, Ka Leong and Mr LEE, Mang Hei Gordon. Both young men are year 3 students and set for departure to Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich this month. They will have the chance to study some post-graduate programs with credits recognizable for their further studies.

The scholarship scheme was established since 2017 (please click here for more details on the scheme) aiming to support ten outstanding undergraduate local and non-local students every year across all disciplines to go on exchange for at least a full semester in non-Asian countries. This year the University has arranged the scholarship recipients to study at leading universities, with three in Switzerland and seven in the United States (namely the University of Southern California; GeorgiaTech; Pennsylvania, Cornell & Columbia Universities). We are grateful for the great support and the confidence of the Foundation in HKUST to raise talents for Hong Kong and the motherland.
